Time to make steel cut oats a thing for the spring and summer. In order to do that, you’ve got to freshen it up. We added some strawberries to ours, some maple syrup, cinnamon and pecans.
Recipe by Tina Kaye
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 cup steel cut oats (Bob’s Red Mill are a great choice)
3 cups water
Strawberries sliced (as many as your heart desires)
Handful of chopped pecans
Sprinkle of cinnamon
Drizzle of maple syrup (or honey)
Directions:
Add oats to a pot along with the water and bring to a boil. Add a pinch of salt
Turn down the heat to medium low, stir occasionally. You’ll notice that the water starts to evaporate and the oats become creamy. Approximately 15-20 minutes.
Turn heat off and let stand for a couple of minutes.
Add oats to a serving bowl, add strawberries, cinnamon and maple syrup. Serve hot and enjoy.
